We started our summer tour back in Ol’ San Antonio to see our “old” friends. It was very enjoyable to spend a long weekend with such good people. The next stop was in Rusk Texas where the Texas State Railroad has been running a Steam and Diesel train for the past very decades. The park, (Campground), has been sold to a private company, was up to the State Park standards. The day we arrived, a Thursday, we were the only ones in the campground. So we had our pick of the sites. Good thing, most of the sites were not able to handle our trailer. By the time the weekend arrived so had dozen more RVs and a Cub Scout troop.

Up the road we stop at Millwood Dam State Park in Arkansas. We were able to park on the Lake’s shore and had a beautiful view from our “lake house”. We took a day trip to a town called Washington Arkansas. The whole town was restored as a living museum where you toured old houses and courthouses that were used in the early 1800’s. It is amazing one can find a little history in the smallest of towns. In the northwest part of Arkansas we visited Eureka Spring. An Ozark Mountain village that has natural springs flowing though the town. The historic downtown is full of art and crafts shops, taking hours to browse.

Just 80 miles from here is Branson Missouri. We spent a week at Table Rock Lake (no lake view this time) and visited the sites in Branson. We enjoyed a showboat dinner show on the lake to celebrate Minnie’s 39th birthday. Branson became an entertainment area in the 50’s to give the visiting fishermen’s wives of Table Rock Lake something to do. (Another fun fact).

From Missouri we jumped over to Memphis is search of Elvis. No luck, he must be in Vegas.

Our next stopped was a true oasis, Bardstown Kentucky. “The Bourbon capital of the World.” There are 7 distilleries within a 15 miles radius. The State Park (My ol Kentucky Home State Park) is small but allowed us to be parked next to a golf course and we had a great view of the course. I knew I brought my clubs for a reason. Close to Bardstown is a Shaker village that was established in 1830, and was residents to over 400 men and woman until 1922. The village was restored and has several artisans demonstrating the crafts and lifestyle of the Shakers that occupied this 44 acre village.
