We continued our trek by heading west to avoid major metropolitan areas, i.e. New York City. So we stayed a week in the Poconos and visited little tourist towns. Philadelphia and Washington DC were our main destinations. Spending two week in each area, allowed us to visit almost all the sites we had on our must see list. Again, there is so much history to see, one can’t get it all in. In addition to our planned excursions, we came across a magnificent garden in West Chester PA. Longwood was built by the billionaire Pierce DuPont. These gardens have everything from vegetables growing to a Conservatory with fruit trees. However the most astonishing plants are the six foot wide water platters. Not sure if the pictures give them justice.
Highlights in Philadelphia are the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. In DC we saw all the sites except for the zoo and Mt Vernon. We even drove out to Dulles Airport to see the Air and Space annex that has the Space Shuttle Enterprise and a SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. Finally we drove down to Williamsburg VA and did the touristy Colonial Williamsburg. Next we head to Georgia to visit with the Grandkids, then back to Texas.
